SINGING FOR FUN WEEKEND
Each of the four sessions (Sat. 10 am - 1 pm / 3-6 pm & Sun. 10 am - 12 pm / 1-4 pm) will begin with breathing and relaxation. We will explore the physical apparatus that is our singing instrument and discover the most natural and efficient way to use it. Physical and vocal warm-ups follow as we begin to combine our voices into a group sound. Each session will culminate with songs from Elise's collection including quirky rounds, African part songs, harmonious ballads, and more. We will also stretch our ears and imaginations with creative improvisations. In the evening, there will be time for impromptu singing of favorite songs from Motown to musicals, from spirituals to campfire songs, and wherever else our muses may lead us.
ELISE WITT is a professional singer/composer/educator who has been teaching vocal classes and workshops since 1977, both in her hometown of Atlanta and at festivals, dance weeks, colleges, and universities around the globe. In concert she has appeared at venues as diverse as the Martin Luther King Jr. Center for Nonviolent Social Change, Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, the Bluebird Cafe, the Popular Music Festival in Siena Italy, and the Harvest Festival in Matagalpa Nicaragua. Her Global, Local & Homemade Songs reflect her interest in songs multicultural, southeastern, and original.
Her relaxed teaching style helps participants to re-discover and deepen the joy of singing. Teaching by ear, Elise breaks songs down into easily learnable parts, rendering even the most complex harmonies and rhythms eminently singable. Remember, it's called Singing for Fun!
SPLIT TREE FARM perches on a hilltop located 2 1/2 hours northwest of Atlanta and 1/2 hour southwest of Chattanooga in the NW Georgia mountains. From the studio one can view the mountains of Georgia, Tennessee, and Alabama. The studio floor is wood, made from trees fallen on the property. The farm house sleeps 24 in beds and there are further accommodations for camping on the farm's 200 acres. There is also a hot tub, a grand piano, a fireplace, and an endless supply of books and art.
